Oh Shannon – I had no idea the turmoil you were experiencing! I love that you still love God – because He still loves you!!! I do too, babygirl!

  2. Caressa says:

LOVE THIS! I am so glad that you found your way to a HEALTHY church family. Many people after an experience like that would want to have nothing more to do with Church or God that produces those kinds of people. This often reminds me of a quote I used to hear “some people are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good!”. How warped are some in their legalism. Works based salvation takes away the power of God’s unfailing love and grace!Love your wine drinking sister in Christ,Caressa 🙂

Hi Shannon,You don’t know me but I’ve found my way to your blog through the Facebook world, and I just wanted to thank you for writing so honestly. I was raised in a wonderful, liberal church in Northern Virginia that was so so supportive and never oppressive; it hurts my heart to read that that wasn’t your experience. Flash forward a few years later and I am a happy Athiest, a term I am about 99% comfortable with. You may be wondering why I’m writing, but I just wanted to tell you that it really lifted me up today to read about your journey with, not just religion, but faith. I want to validate that what you’re saying is important. I may not believe in God, but I can see the wonderful things that faith brings to people, and I just wanted to say thank you.Warmest,Jessica

Shannon,This was a terrific post and I appreciate your truthfulness and am so thankful for where you are with God right now – your mama was right, God is good all the time. Sometimes it’s only in hindsight that we can see how he molded us and shaped us. Thanks for sharing your heart.

  6. David Pate says:

Thank you so much for sharing. That was a big help to me. It reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:56: “The sting of death is sin. And the power of sin is the law. 57 But let us give thanks to God! He wins the battle for us because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done.” We go to Heaven because what Jesus has done, not what we have done. Pursuing legalism and the law just gives power to sin. I hope you keep writing!

  9. Sondra says:

Shannon, thank you for sharing this. From having a slightly similar experience growing up, I am truly amazed and inspired to not hear even a twinge of bitterness as you recount these traumas. You have such a strong spirit to have endured all of this and have it only make you sweeter.
